After having a 6-1 weekend at the BC AAA Girls Provincial Championships, the DCSS Sr. Girls Volleyball team brought home the bronze medal. Losing a close semi-final game against Carihi Tyees, the team then came out strong to beat a solid W.L. Seaton team from Vernon.
The medal follows on the heels of an amazing season for the team, going 43-3 and winning the SRRA, PGYVC Kodiak Classic, DCSS Invitational, Zone Championship and placing 3rd at the Douglas Invitational and the Provincial Championship. Reflecting on that season and their overall placement, team member Tionna Lenart says, “It’s an amazing achievement.”
The team has had the continued support of parents, coaching staff, volunteers and sponsors along the way and Gridiron sponsor spokesperson Tammy Schmidt says it’s an extremely worthy cause.
“It takes a lot of hands to accomplish all that goes into organized sports, and we’re really thrilled to be able to be a small part of encouraging these girls to make active lifestyle choices that they’ll take with them for years to come.”
Coach Aaron Powell gave accolades on social media recently, thanking the players, parents, coaches and all those involved in helping the team throughout the season.
“The highly skilled and coachable players that bought in 100%” helped achieve the team’s success.”
In addition to the accolades and thanks, players and coaches are bidding farewell to six 2020 graduating players;
Libero Allstar, Tyler Bondaroff
3rd Team Allstar, Julia Evans
2nd Team Allstar, Kate Powell
2nd Team Allstar, Katlyn Bassett
1st Team Allstar, Aidan Armitage
2017 Team BC NAIG, Hannah McCarthy
“It’s hard to believe that we started this journey together way back in grade 7,” says Powell in his social media post, “and it’s even harder to believe that it’s over now. You’re all truly amazing girls who will do incredible things in the future.”
