The temporary upstream fish passage facility began operations in September 2020. During dam construction, fish are sorted and then transported upstream of the dam site for release back into the Peace River and its tributaries.

On October 2, 2020, a longnose sucker was the first fish to arrive at the temporary upstream fish passage facility. Biologists sampled, tagged and released the fish two kilometres upstream of the dam site.
