More than $10K given out at Chetwynd BCRA Rodeo

The second year of the Chetwynd BCRA Rodeo couldn’t have gone any better. Held last weekend, June 1 and 2, the rodeo featured more than 100 entries each day, with both the total and number of entries from outside the Peace Region up a lot more than last year.

“We were really pleased with how everything went, and we certainly took a step forward this year,” said Shelly Currier, a member of the organizing committee. She was very thankful of the community, volunteers and sponsors that enabled everything to go smoothly.

More than $10,000 was given out in prize money this year. Sienna Ghostkeeper was one of the champions from Chetwynd, winning the junior barrel race.

The bull riding competition was featured, resulting in more money given out and 24 total entries participating. Denton Spiers of Quesnel, a former high school provincial champ, won the bull riding event with a score of 87.

Currier said the rodeo will be back for a third year in 2020, and are hoping to continue to add to the weekend to make it more special for the spectators.
