There will be one less team to see in NWJHL action this season. The Beaverlodge Blades have withdrawn from the 2018/19 season.
“As most are aware, Beaverlodge Blades will not be icing a team for the 2018/19 season,” says a statement attributed to NWJHL executive. “The NWJHL wishes to thank [President] Richard [Lappenbush] and all those who gave it their all in trying to keep the team alive.”
With the Blades withdrawing, there are currently six teams in the league. On Wednesday, the NWJHL announced a new schedule. There are 108 regular season games, and the Dawson Creek Junior Canucks will play 36 games.
While the schedule online previously removed games that featured the Blades, Junior Canucks GM Colby Wagar says they added games to the schedule to make up for the difference. (There was originally 126 games scheduled for the league).
The Canucks still open the season on the road versus the Fairview Flyers September 21, and the home opener versus the North Peace Navigators on September 29 will remain the same. DC won't play their BC rivals until a nearly a month in, with a home game versus the Fort St. John Huskies taking place October 20.
