Dawson Creek student Julia Evans has signed on with one Canada’s top post secondary volleyball programs.
Evans is now a member of the University of Alberta Pandas. It all started right here, in Mile Zero.
“I started playing when I was 5 or 6 years old, I started as an underage player,” Evans added.
“I played many years during high school, my focus in volleyball became more clear, when Aaron Powell became my coach.”
Evan has been homeschooled and completed grade 7 during one summer in order to stay and play with her team. Now a DCSS student Evans' decision on schooling has paid off, as Julia has an impressive record from 2017 to 2019 which includes numerous All-Star, MVP’s and titles over the last three seasons.
Team BC recognizes players across the province and Evans was selected to train with the top 100 player’s of U14 division.
“The U of A wants me to play five years with a year by year signing agreement, they usually ask players to play four, but I was asked to play and sign for five seasons.”
Evans is looking forward to getting back to training, as she enrolled in school and healing from an injury. This marks the second straight year that the Dawson Creek Volleyball Club has graduated players to top University programs.
