Strong start leads to 6-3 win for the Junior Canucks

Game six in Dawson Creek Wednesday, March 7.

It may not have been a complete 60 minute effort, but it was an electrifying 50 minutes, and with the W, you didn’t see too many fans at the Memorial Arena complaining.

The 6-3 victory over the North Peace Navigators at home evened up the series for the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks at 2-2.

Continuing the trend of the three previous games in the series, the Canucks got on the board first, and just like two of those three games, Trey Nichol was the man responsible just before halfway through the opening frame.

Alex Richardson made it two for the Canucks six minutes later. Dawson Creek finished the period outshooting the Navigators 17-8.

In the second period, the Canucks put up two goals, including a power play marker, before North Peace responded on the man advantage themselves less than a minute later. The Canucks and Navs would trade goals to end the frame 5-2.

Canucks forward Dustin Bahm was assessed a misconduct for a check to the head.

The third period started lethargically for the Canucks, and after spending much of the first two periods in the other end, they couldn’t seem to get the puck out of the defensive zone for nearly the first 10 minutes.

The Navigators capitalized on this, scoring their third, but it seemed to wake the Canucks up. Kole Comin scored the final goal for Dawson Creek.

DC outshot North Peace 47-34. Simon Bowyer was strong in net, turning away 31 shots. Nichol and Comin both had two goals, and Comin led the team with three points.

There will be at least two more games in the series, with the first one up tonight in Peace River at 8 pm. Whoever wins tonight will have a chance to move on to the next round with a game six win in Dawson Creek on Wednesday.
