Dawson Creek Dojo reopens for training

For the first time since March 30, the Dawson Creek Kyokushin Karate Dojo will resume training when it reopens September 14. Head instructor Mark Fonda is excited and eager to get things going again.
“I’m totally excited. Everyone has been very positive, knows about the enhanced protocols we’ll be following, and is ready to get back to it,” said Fonda.
Some of the protocols the dojo will be following is training with the cohort model to allow for some physical activity, structured gear placement, enhanced sanitization, hand washing and cleaning of uniforms, and no shared gear. As well, only students will be allowed in the dojo during training.
There won’t be any karate competitions for the foreseeable future, so Fonda will be focussing on the training aspect.
“The reason they area there is to train. I am a big advocate of competition and focussing on that at our dojo but being temporarily restrained from that isn’t a horrible thing,” Fonda said. “It will be challenging at first, but I’m positive that the students will respond in kind and respect where we’re at and work with us in following the rules. These kids have been itching to get back to karate.”
