Big weekend for DC Club volleyball

On Sunday, two of the Dawson Creek Club Volleyball teams met in the finals of the weekend tournament at DCSS South Peace Campus, with the U17/18 team topping the U16 team after a hard fought three set match.

“We started off in the morning struggling in the first game, but we ended up winning it, and the girls just brought energy and intensity throughout the whole day,” says Stephen Gibson, head coach of the U17/18 team “We played our U16 team numerous times and they’re very evenly matched with us, but we ended up victorious.”

The two teams faced numerous teams from Quesnel, Chetwynd, Grand Prairie, and Peace River in a round robin on Saturday and playoffs earlier Sunday.

“We had a phenomenal tournament, both of us were undefeated coming in,” says Aaron Powell, head coach of the U16 team.

While the U16 and U17/18 teams were battling at home, the U14 team was on the road in Edmonton competing at the Alberta Volleyball Association first premier against teams in Northern BC and Alberta, including Fort St. John, Grand Prairie and Edmonton.

The U14 team placed second amongst 36 teams, falling to the Edmonton-based FOG Hawks.

“They played amazing,” says co-coach Kari Bondaroff. “We went in with hopes of top 10, and came out with silver.”
