Never before has the challenge of being apart fostered the drive to keep us together.

And the technology Xplornet offers its rural customers is playing a significant role in achieving that connection.

As the COVID-19 virus continues to minimize direct contact, workers, students, family and friends have become increasingly dependent on high-speed Internet services provided by Xplornet in communities, such as Dawson Creek.

”While these social distancing rules start to slowly lift, the new and innovative ways individuals begin to keep in touch could be a significant and rather a new part of how society moves forward,” says Jack Barreto, district manager in B.C.

“A new reality may be that a fairly large amount of individuals may continue to work and operate from home in the future,” Barretosays. “And the need for a reliable, high-speed Internet connection becomes a vital part of performance, which speaks to Xplornet’s mandate in providing a high-level of service in rural markets.”

Currently, Xplornet offers Dawson Creek customers a download speed of up to 25 megabits per second.

What does this mean?

“While you can still support services such as streaming movies with our slower speeds, the primary difference is that 25 megabits per second allows the simultaneous use of multiple devices on a single network,” Barreto explains.

“That means you can stream movies on Netflix, make FaceTime calls, partake in Zoom meetings with co-workers and surf the rest of the web simultaneously without impacting the network.”

This comes in handy as most homes have at least one Internet-linked device per person.

“That’s a huge improvement, especially for small communities in rural B.C.,” Barreto says, adding that the recent introduction of unlimited data to the faster connection speed makes it a worry-free package.

“Being connected to your friends and family is paramount,” Barreto says. “That’s also true for young students remaining in touch with their peers.”

“And for so long now, there’s been little or no face-to-face contact. Thankfully, the technology from Xplornet is playing a huge part in keeping us connected.”
