PRRD plans for June cleanup

The Peace Regional River District is going ahead with their 2020 Spring Cleanup program this year, despite the COVID 19 pandemic looming in the background. PRRD has been experiencing some issues collecting fees from residents who refuse to use debit or credit, which was pushed as the preferred method due to the pandemic.

On April 9, the regional board shot down a motion to scrap cash at the landfills.

“They deal with cash. I believe that the discussion was that we wouldnít turn anyone away with a couple bags of garbage. There has to be some discretion there, otherwise we have to change the bylaws,” said Director Dan Rose.

The cleanup program goes live this year from June 1 to June 14. Tipping fees will be waived for sorted and self-hauled waste, with some PRRD Transfer Stations and Landfills having extended hours.

The Bessborough Landfill will be open 7 days a week for the two week period from 8am to 4:45pm.
