While it’s cold outside – the spliffs are hot and the cannabis business is lit in Pouce Coupe.

The village cut a green ribbon on Weedmart just before 11 am Friday; and the customers packed in looking for all kinds of marijuana.

It was crossfades and dirps. Mayor Lorraine Michetti and councilor Barb Smith were on hand for the opening with owners Tim and Michelle Doonan, along with Northern Region Liquor and Cannabis Inspector Lorie Barrette.

“I’ll take some of the high-test.”

“The torque-y stuff?”

“You know it.”

While the first purchase was Reign Drops 30:1 cannabis oil, first official traditional marijuana customer and Dawson Creek resident Brandon Sterling said it was important to be at the store this morning.

“Tim and Michelle are friends of mine,” he said noting he picked up some $300 of Blue Dream cannabis flower.

Michetti noted there has been little opposition at the village level.

“We’ve had a few residents let us know they are not happy, but otherwise every one has been supportive.”

As the first customers wrapped purchases, the parking lot was filling.

“Hope they have a lot in stock,” noted Darryl Beatty on the way in.

Michelle Doonan noted that every product has to be tracked through the store and sale.

“There’s not enough time in the day,” joked Tim Doonan as the customers began to line up and jam in.

Within the first few customers, more than $1,000 had been sold and already out the door.

“It is pretty neat that Pouce is one of the early pioneers in this,” added Beatty.
