Future still messy for Peace Haven site - Village offers to purchase land and clean it

The Village of Pouce Coupe has offered to purchase the Peace Haven lands back from North Wind Healing for $1 after insurance has denied North Wind Healing Centre's insurance claim related to a 2019 fire that decimated the location.
North Wind Healing Centre had planned building a large addictions centre on the land.
Executive director Isaac Hernandez confirms the 2019 blaze has been deemed an arson – and prior to the fire due to break-ins and vandalism, the building’s sprinkler system was not operational.
“Our priority is still to find the funds,” notes Hernandez.
The Village of Pouce Coupe council has offered to clean the site after purchasing it back from North Wind for a $1.
“This is something the board is considering, yes," added Hernandez on Monday.
Mayor of Pouce Coupe Lorraine Michetti said the village's offer was simple.
"The village has offered to purchase the land back for $1 and the village will pay for cleaning the site," Michetti said this week.
The society took over the facility from Northern Health in 2015.
If renovated, North Wind hoped the Pouce Coupe facility could offer a full range of treatment services for many people at one time people at a time. This was to include space for people struggling with opioid withdrawal to detox, as well as after care for recovering addicts.
Initially, the goal was to pay for renovations with donations from the oil and gas industry, with a number of government agencies potentially contributing operational funding. The location burned to the ground and was responded to by area firefighters May 15 and 16 of 2019.
