YMCA, NLC, and Chetwynd Child Care Society partner for Little Lights Daycare

Local areas of South Peace Region, BC – The Chetwynd Child Care Society, current operator of Little Lights Daycare is excited to announce a successful agreement has been reached with the Northern YMCA and Northern Lights College (NLC) for future operations of the Little Lights Daycare located at the Chetwynd NLC Campus effective September 1, 2019.

Over a year in the making, this agreement has taken many efforts and detailed planning from all parties.  The Chetwynd Child Care Society approached the YMCA as a potential partner to ensure quality child care services would continue in Chetwynd.  The YMCA is the largest not-for-profit provider of child care in Canada, with nearly 40 years of experience in the field.  The YMCA of Northern BC offers high-quality child care programs for infants, toddlers, preschool and school aged children throughout the North, including recent partnerships with School District 60 in Fort St John.

The YMCA of Northern BC was awarded the 2014 Child Care Awards of Excellence by the Ministry of Children & Family Development for their outstanding work on behalf of children and families in Northern BC.

President of the Chetwynd Child Care Society Sara Hoehn states “We are overjoyed with the outcome of this agreement.  Having a national leader providing licensed child care spaces will go a long way in meeting the needs of local families.  With the support of the community there is no doubt that the YMCA of Northern BC will be successful in growing the number of child care spaces to include much needed age groups.  We would like to extend our appreciation to our staff for their hard work and dedication throughout this transition period.  Early Childhood Educators play a vital role in shaping the lives of young children and supporting lifelong success.”

The Chetwynd Child Care Society hopes our local communities will join us in extending a very warm welcome to the Northern YMCA and their Play to Learn curriculum.  We look forward to supporting their lead in the growth and development of our Littlest Lights.  Families are encouraged to watch for future reports outlining the transition process as there are no anticipated disruptions in child care services.

Little Lights Daycare is a licensed child care facility providing 25 spaces for children age 30 months to 5 years.
