Brownlee running for mayor in Chetwynd; Nichols for council

With Mayor Merlin Nichols saying he won’t run for re-election, there will be a new face in the mayor’s chair. Councillor Alec Brownlee has put his name forward for the title.

Brownlee has sat on council since 2008.

As for council, incumbents Mel Deck, Clay Bassendowski, Laura Weisgerber, and Rochelle Galbraith have filed their papers for re-election. Ernest Pfanner is the only one to have not filed papers, as of now.

And while he isn’t running for another term at the top job, Nichols has put his name in the ring for council.

Jocelyn Disher and Janet Wark have also put their names forward for a council seat.

The Chetwynd Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Meet the Candidates Q&A Thursday, September 20 at 7 pm at the Pomeroy. You can send questions in beforehand to be read out to manager@chetwyndchamber.ca, or ask them in person during the question period.
