Peace River to memorialize Darcy Haugan

Plans for a permanent memorial to Darcy Haugan were discussed at this week’s regularly scheduled Peace River council meeting.

Saddened to learn former general manager and head coach of the North Peace Navigators was among those killed in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash, elected officials want to reflect that he was a well-loved community member and an important part of junior hockey in this community.

“During this time we are mourning with Humboldt and we have lowered flags at municipal facilities in Peace River for until the funeral service,” said Peace River officials.

“Additionally, our arena staff have joined with thousands of others across the country who have put a hockey stick at the entrance to their homes. We share our grief with those impacted by this horrific event, our hearts, prayers, and deepest condolences go out to Darcy’s family during this time.”

By Monday afternoon the GoFundMe campaign for Humboldt Broncos had reached $6 million, making it one of the top campaigns in history.
