Let`s start this by saying, as a pagan, I do not worship any and all gods and goddesses out there. There are some pretty bad ones, that are horrific, such as Baal, Baal is bad, m`kay folks. I will not worship or give my time and effort to deities who ask for child sacrifice, or rape, or anything horrible like that.
I give my time and attention to deities who help. Yes, they ask for sacrifice, but it’s a sacrifice of myself, my time, my effort, not others.
I’d like to share my views and beliefs with you on this. Therefore, I have been really scared with the news lately, and how women are being targeted. And I want to talk to you about it.
The news around the world is very heavy with hate against women. There are decisions being made for women, about women, without their will, words, or wish.
In paganism, intent has a very important role. Everything is about intent. Rituals and workings must have clear intent behind them to work, and to many pagans, the ‘rituals’ of the “Politicians” are working.
Women are being targeted, their choices and options stripped away. Women’s words are being ignored. Their autonomy is being ignored. Worse, it’s being shut down.
We are losing our rights to our own bodies. We are once again men’s chattel. And we’ve been there before, and we’re here once again.
I think it’s time for the old gods to have a say. Primarily Artemis, the ancient Greek protector of women and their rights.
Artemis is an ancient goddess, worshipped by The Greeks, but also seen in many other cultures under different names.Primarily, she is a protector of women. She is also a huntress, and a Virgin. Her virginity is seen as her taking her own Power and keeping it to herself. She choose to make her own decisions, and not bound under the yoke of a husband. (history’s words, not mine). She was free, as a virgin, to hunt, to pursue justice, to protect her followers, and to wander the world.
She had many companions, and travelled, hunting, visiting, appearing to her followers and shrines.
Many men and gods were punished just for even thinking of raping her or her assistants and companions, and she saved the women by transforming them into animals or trees so that the men couldn’t perform the hateful act.
Artemis is also a goddess of pregnancy, of childbirth. She protected women who were pregnant and giving birth. She also protected women who chose to keep their virginity and remain unmarried. She protected all women, and so must we.
If you look at ancient goddesses, around the world, there was always at least one who protected women, regardless of what the male dominated society wanted. This goddess would change women into animals to help them get away from abuse, rape, forced marriage, pregnancies.
They helped women like us, who had to make choices. Who desperately needed a voice. They helped women who had no voice, or whose voices were stolen or silenced.
In the modern world, women are still being raped still, after millenia.
In the modern world, women are being forced into marriages, still, after millenia.
In the modern world, women have no bodily automony, still, after millenia.
In the modern world, women are being refused standard medical procedures, still, after millenia.
In the modern world, women are still not being paid their worth, still, after millenia.
In the modern world, I think we need some old old time religion. I think that we need to go way back, and look at how deities like Artemis helped us, and maybe help ourselves in the same way.
Women, claim your sacred feminity. Claim your voice. Claim your rights.
Men, you may not be able to make the choice for us, but you can support us and love us and make sure that our rights to bodily autonomy are enforced.
We don’t have to have a battle of the sexes. We just have to have respect for ourselves and each other.
I bring this to you with love. Blessed Be.
