For Meriah Alberts, Maxim came calling at just the right time.
In search of something new, Alberts had just come off a couple photo shoots with the idea of catching on as a swimsuit and fitness model.
“I wanted a change, and this would be a great opportunity starting out.” This year’s winner will take home a feature spread in Maxim magazine, receive $10,000, and help raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society.
While she lives in south Taylor, she looking to expand her wings. It’s a big year for her already, with a marriage ceremony in the cards later this year to fiancee Cody Skopnik. Alberts is born and raised in FSJ, moving to the District of Taylor by junior high.
“I’ve been there ever since, it is my home.”
That is not to say she hasn’t seen the world. Trips to Malaysia, Vietnam, and more keep her grounded - by seeing the world.
After graduating four years ago from NLC, she went to work for Shell Canada, operating on a Groundbirch gas plant lease. Alberts, like a handful from the Peace region, are leading her particular voting group at the moment.
Voting goes until May 16. More than 2400 women are in the competition, with May 16 cutting the crowd down to roughly 1,000. Then 500, then to 100. By June 20 - a winner will be crowned, so to speak.
Voting for this round goes until 11pm EDT on Thursday May 16.
