In an update to a previous story - a member of Dawson Creek’s curling club has received a huge honour by Curl BC.
Deanna Larson has been awarded Volunteer of the Year.
“Deanna has been an integral part of the organization and proven herself to be an exceptional leader. Well-organized, committed, and purposeful,” said Curl BC, in a press release.
“Curl BC is very proud to name her as its Curling Centre Volunteer of the Year, and we offer our gratitude for all she’s done for both her local club and the sport of curling.”
But, it came as a complete surprise to Larson, the nomination quietly made by club manager Jeff Ginter.
“I received an email on Thursday telling me I had won,” she said.
“I decided to get on to the board about six years ago shortly after I got here. Started as a director and then I moved into the secretary role, became the vice-president, and then served as the president for two years.”
Larson was also key in negotiating a new lease for the club.
“She ensured critical revenue-generating and operational clauses remained for the club, and under challenging circumstances, forged a path forward,” said Curl BC.
“Her dedication kept the club in its current home, saved the 2021-22 season, and ensured a future for curling in Dawson Creek."
