Windfall Forest Service Road (FSR) is now open in Tumbler Ridge, enabling access to Windfall Lake, Holzworth Meadows, and Pinnacle Peak. Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Society says recreational users seeking out the hikes should be aware of heavy traffic on the road.

"Not only has the bridge at km 9 of the FSR been repaired, but the road has also been graded in readiness for imminent logging work," noted the society on Facebook.

Last year, the bridge washed out due to heavy flooding. They added users in the area should carry two way radios to announce their presence on the road.

"There will be an unusually high number of hefty vehicles following that road, making it vital (as it always is) that users of the road carry and use 2-way radios to call-in and announce their position via channel RR-21."

Windfall Lake is also a popular camping spot with tent pads, with the society noting campers may want to hold off until the area is dry from melting snow.. Several fallen trees also remain along the Windfall trail.

Anyone heading into or near Tumbler Ridge should also be aware of provincial campfire bans and the 915 hectare fire burning at Tentfire Creek
