The Village of Pouce Coupe by-election has taken another turn. Senior staff who would traditionally fullfil the roles of returning officer and other electoral titles - are on stress/medical leave and/or vacation.

The Mirror has learned Ministry of Municipal Affairs officials are in contact to both fulfil positions temporary on staff. Last week the Village noted to the public nomination packages for a by-election set for July 10.

The Village announced on the day it began accepting nominations for a pair of positions - packages would not be available.

In April, councillor Donna White became the second Pouce Coupe councillor to resign, citing medical reasons.

“Under doctors advice I am doing this for my health,” she said. White's resignation is the second after Ken Drover resigned earlier this year in February.

White had taken on many of Drover’s portfolio positions abandoned, as well as many stripped by council from Mayor Lorraine Michetti. White was also the village’s alternative representative on the PRRD board after Michetti. White said there are internal issues existing prior to Michetti’s infamous social media posting concerning pipeline construction earlier this year.

“We have had countless in camera meetings all throughout last year concerning staff."

In February - village CAO Chris Leggett said with so much time before the next municipal election - a by election would be triggered should any member of council or the mayor step down. The next municipal election is slated for October 15, 2022.

This is a developing story.
