The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to for the week of Oct. 25, 2021

Tsawwassen

*Oct. 27, 7:58 p.m., 4500 block 54A Street: Police observed a vehicle make a prohibited left before conducting a traffic stop to check for sobriety. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver had a distinct odor of liquor on his breath. The driver provided a breath sample and was subsequently issued a 24-hour driving prohibition.

*Oct. 28, 12:12 p.m., 5000 block 12 Avenue: Police were dispatched to a suspected impaired driver after being advised a vehicle drove off with a gas pump still in the fuel tank. Police contacted the driver who admitted to forgetting the pump handle was inserted in their vehicle, however did not return to scene to exchange information with the business or offer to pay for the damages. Police directed them to do so and advised the incident was now documented.

*Oct. 31, 12:22 a.m., 6000 block Hammermill Avenue: Police were dispatched to a noise complaint as Delta bylaw enforcement was not on duty. Police attended and spoke to the homeowner, who was having a Halloween party. Police advised there was a complaint, and the home owner shut the party down so as to avoid a return visit and infraction. Of notes, there were multiple calls received throughout Tsawwassen this night for fireworks and gatherings of youth.

Ladner

*Oct. 26, 7:43 p.m., 4400 block Arthur Drive: Police observed a vehicle pulled over with a flat tire and assisted them in changing it.

*Oct. 26, 10:02 p.m., 4700 block River Road: Police observed a vehicle crossing the centre line multiple times before initiating a traffic stop to check for sobriety. The driver provided two breath samples, both resulting in a “FAIL.” The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) and had their vehicle impounded for the mandatory 30-day period.

*Oct. 29, 1:15 a.m., 6500 block Ladner Trunk Road: Officers conducted a traffic stop on a rental car and upon identifying the driver, found them to have an outstanding warrant from a neighbouring jurisdiction. The driver was taken into custody, and police subsequently located several break-in tools and drug paraphernalia within the vehicle.

*Oct. 29, 10:53 a.m., 5600 block Highway 17: Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving at a high rate speed (135 km/h in an 80 km/h zone). Police subsequently issued the driver a violation ticket for excessive speed, which is accompanied by a mandatory seven-day vehicle impoundment.

*Oct. 30, 5500 block River Road: Police set up a roadblock for impaired drivers and were drawn to one vehicle who, upon approach, tried to make a three-point turn in a one-way street to avoid the sobriety check. Police initiated a traffic stop, read the breath demand, and issued the driver a 90-day IRP and 30-day impound.
