Pine River wildfire still active, but no growth reported

As of Wednesday morning, the fire was still listed at an estimated 2,542 hectares and classified as out of control.

The BC Wildfire Service has reported no new growth on the Pine River wildfire over the last two days.

As of Wednesday morning, the fire was still listed at an estimated 2,542 hectares and classified as out of control. The fire has seen a significant amount of rain and fire activity remains low, according to the Wildfire Service.

There are 11 firefighters and two helicopters are assigned to the fire. A structure protection specialist remains on site assessing the area to identify values and develop a structure protection plan for the area, according to the Wildfire Service.

Evacuation alerts from the Peace River Regional District and the District of Chetwynd remain in effect for nearby properties.

Highway 97 is open in both directions.
