Pine River receives 'significant' rain, says BC Wildfire Service

The Pine River wildfire received a significant amount of precipitation on Sunday and fire activity remained low, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

The Pine River wildfire received a significant amount of precipitation on Sunday and fire activity remained low, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

There are five firefighters and two helicopters assigned to fire, according to the latest update, and the BC Wildfire Service says high winds that occurred through the day yesterday and are forecasted to continue today. The fire is listed at an estimated 2,542 hectares and classified as out of control.

“Crews and heavy equipment completed a fire guard to the east of the Pine River wildfire yesterday,” the BC Wildfire Service reported. 

“Today, crews are continuing to mop up along the south flank. The Structure Protection Specialist on site is completing a broad assessment of the area today to identify values and develop a structure protection plan for the area.”

An evacuation alert remains in place for properties near Chetwynd.

The fire started on Friday afternoon and is cause is under investigation.
