For young ladies 13 to 18 – Nawican Youth and Cultural Centre will be taking place each Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for four weeks.

Each day will bring an hour and a half session – and participants will talk learning tools, self-care, boundary setting, consent issues, self-esteem and mental health issues. Intercultural understanding as well as prevention of substance abuse will also be focuses. The five keys of social and emotion learning will be touched upon, and a new session begins each month

“It is a new program that will run after school ends,” says – Carolina Arango Henao -a Nawican Youth Councillor.

While not encouraging gathering - Myrene Tesico program assistant at Nawican says the youth centre is a great place to just hang out – or work on life skills if youth would like.

“There is so much talent in the youth in our community,” she says.

The program is for non-indigenous, indigenous, and international youth.

“This is an opportunity to bring values out to community and women,” adds Tesico. The twice weekly sessions run for a month, and have limited spots.
