Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm is scheduled to appear in Dawson Creek provincial court on Tuesday to face an assault charge.
According to court records, the alleged offence took place on Saturday, Aug. 13, in Dawson Creek.
The city had been hosting the Dawson Creek Stampede and Exhibition that weekend, where Pimm appeared with Agriculture Minister Norm Letnick on Aug. 12 to announce preliminary details of a Site C agriculture mitigation fund.
On Aug. 15, Pimm resigned from the B.C. Liberal caucus, after being arrested and citing unspecified legal allegations that required him to retain a lawyer. The next day, a special prosecutor was appointed to his case. Court records also show Supreme Court family law proceedings began Aug. 19, six days after the incident.
Pimm continues to represent the region as an independent, and has not been found guilty of the charge. Pimm has not returned calls for comment.
This is not the first time Pimm has resigned from caucus. In 2011, he spent the night in jail following a domestic dispute with his wife. A special prosecutor was appointed in that case, but ultimately declined to press charges.
