Dawson Creek taxes are coming in

Dawson Creek taxpayers have paid $16.8 million in cash and $2.3 million in claimed Home Owner Grants, representing 77% of the city’s total property tax balance.

Dawson Creek’s residential properties (Class 1) collection, including HOG claims, amount to $10.98 million (84% of total collection) and non-residential amounts to $8.12 million (68.5%).

The total 2020 property taxes expected to be collected by the city amounted to $24.9 million, of which $17.4 million is related to municipal taxes. The remaining $7.5M represents collection for other agencies, before offsetting the Home Owner Grant (HOG).

Of monies brought in, 74% of payments to the city were processed through the bank and/or front desk transactions.

There were 2,799 HOG claims in 2020, versus 2,868 claims in 2019. The total request for tax deferment from 2020 was 11 cases amounting to $21.8K versus 25 ($26K) compared to last year.
