Serious injuries have resulted from a collision between two semi-trucks on the Alaska Highway today.

On March 2, at approximately 9:45am, Dawson Creek RCMP were dispatched to a collision on Highway 97 near 239 Road.

Dawson Creek RCMP officers attended, along with paramedics and firefighters, to render aid to the involved drivers. One of the involved drivers (Male, 30) sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. The other involved driver (male, 49) required extrication from the vehicle and received serious, life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the quick action of attending first responders; whom worked together to render emergency life-saving first-aid, it is anticipated that both drivers will survive.

The resulting investigation determined environmental conditions to be primary factors in the collision. Road conditions were icy and slippery, strong cross winds were identified to be contributing factors.

Charges are not anticipated. Highway 97 has been closed for several hours, however it is anticipated that the road will soon be open again, once the debris is cleared from the road way.
