Dawson Creek home 'borderline' after morning fire

Fire likely started on deck, chief says

A home in the 1600 block of 101 Ave. may need to be demolished after a fire tore through its attic Tuesday morning.

Twenty fire fighters rushed to the scene to contain the fire, which risked spreading due to strong winds. No one was injured.

"The house has significant damage," Fire Chief Gordon "Shorty" Smith told the Dawson Creek Mirror. "The fire got into the attic space, so it had some significant damage to it. It's borderline whether it can be fixed or if they tear it down."

Crews are still investigating what caused the fire. Smith said it likely began on the back deck of the house.
