Beginning of April 2019, mother of three Brittany Rechsteiner started to have some stomach pain and went to the doctor to have it checked out. After running several tests, scans and ultrasounds they found a tennis ball size mass on her ovaries.
She was immediately sent for a biopsy and began a stressful two week wait for the results. Doctors had mentioned cyst but also the possibility of cancer. On April 29, Brittany received her results, diagnosed with a rare and aggressive stage 4 ovarian cancer.
Next steps involve putting together the best treatment plan possible with the oncology team in Vancouver. Further testing is required to pin point the right treatment needed. Treatment will involve chemotherapy and a full hysterectomy. The surgery will need to be performed in Vancouver.
