Wall falling on LVCU, city looks into it

The wall is falling on the Lake View Credit Union - right at Mile Zero. Retaining wall that is.

LVCU finds themselves next door to a retaining wall on a piece of land owned and currently listed for sale adjacent to them, at the corner of Alaska Highway and 8th Street.

Kevin Henderson, city general manager of development says there are some issues with the retaining wall.

“It is moving. There is a risk and the property owner must deal with it,” he said Monday.

“My concern is once we start doing the work, we will end up with the property and the costs.”

Henderson said the city has been on the file for awhile now.

“We have been dealing with this for a year  and felt we were getting somewhere with Force Engineering and then the for sale sign went up.”

The city expects to get to the bottom of legal ramifications as it relates to sale of the land, development, soil removal, leachate examination, and more.
