Supreme Court jury trial proceedings began this morning for a Dawson Creek man accused of sexual assaulting a woman in February 2017. Lane Grey Jeanneault, 34, appeared in person today to face his charges.
It’s alleged the assault took place at an oil and gas camp just outside Dawson Creek, where both the victim and Jeanneault worked.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the trial was moved to the Kiwanis Performing Art Centre (KPAC) to accommodate the jury and jury selection. Selections finished Monday for a twelve person jury.
Madam Justice Karen Horsman says Jeanneault was arraigned over the weekend, and has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Crown says they expect the trial will revolve around whether the victim consented to sex with Jeanneault.
Several witnesses are scheduled to provide testimony on the alleged assault, with the victim taking the stand this afternoon.
The trial is expected to conclude this week but may continue into the weekend.
This is a developing story.
