Northern Health’s first COVID-19 death due to community transmission

Northern Health officials not elaborating on location of the public event.

Dr. Bonnie Henry confirmed this afternoon that the north's first COVID-19 death was due to community transmission.

"This was a woman in her 70s who passed away in hospital, who was exposed to COVID-19 while attending an event."

Northern Health currently sits at 216 cases.

A Norhtenr Health spokesperson said there was no more information forthcoming.

"Dr. Henry’s comments represent all of the information that is being released specific to the northern region's first Covid related death, in order to protect that individual’s privacy."
