Tell us about yourself.
I have lived in Dawson Creek my entire life and my wife Vicki and I have raised our two wonderful daughters here who now along with their spouses are raising their children here as well. We are blessed to have 5 amazing grandchildren and I want to ensure Dawson Creek builds upon the strong family orientated community that we have. I have previously had the honor to serve as a City Councilor in Dawson Creek from 1993-1996 and then was honored to have been elected Mayor of Dawson Creek and served two terms from 1996-2001. From 2001 until 2013 I was given the privilege to serve as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia for the riding of Peace River South and was honoured to serve as Minister of Community Development, Minister of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources as well as Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. During my time being elected to serve on city council I focused my efforts on building our city into a community that welcomed investment, had a strong reputation as being open for business and built a family friendly community that people were proud to call home. It is my hope that with your support I can again bring those values to City Council.
How do you spend your time around Dawson Creek for leisure?
I spend a great deal of time with my 5 grandchildren and help coach the two that are now in hockey. I also enjoy riding my motorcycle and playing guitar with my friends.
Why are you running?
I am running for city council because I love Dawson Creek. I have grown up here, raised our family here and plan on living here for the rest of my life. I have previously served in elected office both here in Dawson Creek and provincially and feel I have the skill set to help develope our city into the best place to live, work, invest and raise a family.
We will be following with full interviews tomorrow! And don’t forget the DC Mirror council candidate mega-debate at Encana Events Centre Thursday Oct. 11.
