Marijuana in Mile Zero on Monday

It was getting pretty dank in Starbuds this morning – as DC’s new cannabis location starting receiving boxes and boxes of cardboard. And those boxes were filled with cannabis.

Owner Matt Rivard says Starbuds head honchos are also in Mile Zero today providing staff training.

Brianna Martyn – director of operations with Starbuds Canada - says DC is the first store in Canada.

“It is our first location in Canada – and that is quite exciting. We really like supporting local businesses,” she says. The store is the 13th in the province to get the go ahead.

Starbuds is partnered with the same name Starbuds in the United States.

“They’ve been running for eight years in the US. It helps solidify that we have a good grasp of the industry.”

Martyn says it is exciting to be this far north for their Canadian launch.

“We’re excited to be in Mile Zero. We think the location is fantastic and not hidden away -– we like to be front and centre – something inviting and that is about education and the guest experience. This is where we think we will stand out – a qualified guest experience.”

Rivard says barring any hazy developments, the store will be open to the public Monday, with a VIP event also planned.
