“We have a imbalance of urban and rural graduating doctors in Canada,” Dr. Winwood says.

Meaning there are more students graduating that are more likely to head to the larger cities to start their career rather than heading to northern smaller communities.

“We need to sew the seeds of health professionals early,” add s Winwood says “and the lower mainland people in the medical field we need to amerce them because in the north they don’t know what they are missing.”

There will be a career road show where health professionals will speak in communities in effort to recruit northern youth to ideally finish medical school and return to northern communities.

Mayor Dale Bumstead said DC has a strong team of health care professionals here in Dawson Creek but like anything these people transition.

"We need to keep the education going.”
