The City of Dawson Creek awarded a three-year contract for noxious weed control to MGP Contracting Vegetation Management at a rate of $40 per hour.
MGP held the previous contract, and the rate is actually $3 an hour cheaper. The previous contract costed approximately $26,000 on an annual basis, and with the lower rate, staff expect a similar operational budget.
“The scope of work includes that the successful proponent meet all local, provincial and federal legislation pertaining to vegetation control,” wrote Ross deBoer, General Manager of Community Services, in a report to council.
“The proponent will be responsible for identifying and treating noxious weeds, selecting appropriate chemical applications, signage, GPS mapping of treated areas and providing records of all applications.”
The RFQ, which closed on March 22, saw three quotations. The two other bids were $125 or more expensive than the winning bid by MGP, which council chose at the April 8 council meeting.
