DC BY-ELECTION 2020 Q&A - DARCY DOBER: able to give back

What specific three reasons are you running for city council?
Future of Dawson Creek, My family and where im at in my life. I know im at the right time in my life to be able to give back at this level and feel with my experience running multiple business’s and having almost 200 employees that I have the right skills to give direction, hold people accountable and create a great culture.

Since throwing your hat into the ring, have there been additional city issues (infrastructure, utilities, service, management, etc) that you also think are key issues to be dealt with at the city council table.    Quality of life balance, Senior housing, Safe water and sewer system (Know one should have to worry about back ups) and the Encana event center. We have already invested so much in the facility and it brings so much pride to our community and the economic impact to our community is unmeasurable.

How do you think current city council is doing with getting off using capital funding for year to year operations?
I feel with my business experience I will be an asset helping with capital budget planning and will be able to make sure the tax dollar is being used as efficient as possible.

The city is looking at charging more for users who do not live in Dawson Creek but use city facilities. What do you think of this?
I believe in order to keep our amenities alive and prosperous we should work on a model for users to contribute to the success. City council should have a strong financial plan with reserves, Not only to keep them in good business standing but also as things age, need repair and need to be replaced we need to have a good plan to protect them and not just borrow to do the required things to keep them alive and active.

Previous councillors and candidates have noted one voice, or even three on council will not stop a block of four councillors voting one way.
This is democracy, I will be one voice and will do my best to represent my vote on giving direction to the future of Dawson Creek.

Is there anything else I have not touched upon?
I strongly feel I am the right candidate with the right experience, I live in Dawson Creek and have ran successful multiple business with numerous team members that will all help me and be an asset to the city’s future.
