Claudette Huber has lived all over the Peace Region — five different towns to be exact — and has made a home in Dawson Creek running a metaphysical store. With Happy on Main, Huber has a passion for offering something new and alternative to the community, and has an engaging vision for the downtown core.
“We want to be that soft place, where people can come and be themselves, and escape that corporate, cardboard sterile kind of environment where nobody really connects with you,” Huber said.
“Dawson Creek is the centre, the hub of the Peace Region, and we need to start thinking like it. I want to see an old-town, downtown kind of feel, and I hope the look of our shop triggers other places in the community to do something similar. How can we become more of a community, and look even more prettier than it already does?”
On advice for women looking to start a business: “It’s a lot tougher being a women in business, but if you put the hours into it and have the dream to build it, you can do it. I tell people if you believe in something you go for it, and don’t begrudge any assistance along the way or think you’re less-than because you had help.”
“Make sure you have a great plan, and do your research ahead of time.”
