City looking at vacant lot sale

If you are a resident along the north side of the 300 block of 100 B Ave., your view of greenspace and recreation area may be changing. The City of Dawson Creek is looking at a proposal to investigate feasibility of selling 14 lots.

City staff report this initiative will improve the financial situation of the municipality. The 14 lots have an estimated value of $50,000 each for total of $700,000, and with 14 homes built assessed at an estimate of $350,000 each will result in annual property tax and infrastructure fees of about $35,000.

Should the decision be approved, existing road, sewer and water lines along 100 B Ave. The move would see loss of about 2.5 acres of Parkland and removal of a swing set. City documents reveal the plan may be progressing.

“Administration will need to investigate possible show-stoppers to this proposal so some budget may be required,” reads a city report.

Staff has been tasked to approve this proposal in principle and ask administration to report on the feasibility of development of these building lots.
