2020 Remembrance Day services

There will be no public Remembrance Day ceremony and parade in Fort St. John this year.

A small, invite-only indoor service was planned at the Legion, however, that was cancelled following public health guidance from the province and the BC/Yukon Command due to the pandemic.

The city will livestream a short service from the Legion cenotaph in the morning, and the public is invited to pay their respect at the cenotaph in the afternoon.

"The board of directors and I are deeply sorry this has to happen but we have to think of our veterans, their health, and families," said Poppies campaign organizer Tina Tucker. "Big thank you to everyone who has reached out to help us with fundraisers."

In Taylor, the district will also be livestreaming a small ceremony, with wreaths laid by Taylor Fire Rescue. The community hall is closed to the public, and residents are encouraged to visit the cenotaph outside of ceremony times.

In Hudson’s Hope, a ceremony will be held at the cenotaph and is closed to the public. There will be no coffee or tea afterwards. The Veterans’ Dinner is also cancelled.

The Dawson Creek Legion will hold a brief service at the cenotaph, starting at 10:45 a.m. with the laying of wreaths. The service is limited to 50 people and those attending are expected to keep physically distanced and wear masks.

In Pouce Coupe, a limited ceremony of 50 people is being offered to Legion members only, starting at 10:45 a.m. Wreaths will be laid.

In Tumber Ridge, a small outdoor ceremony with a 50 person limit will be held at the cenotaph starting at 10:45 a.m. Wreaths will be laid.

In Fort Nelson, residents can watch a livestreamed ceremony starting at 10:45 a.m. on the Fort Nelson Legion’s Facebook page.
