Lead singer and a Papa Roach founding band member Jacoby Shaddix took the time to talk to me on the phone before his performance in Dawson Creek Encana Events Centre on October 12.
Papa Roach has performed at Encana Centre in the past, when asked what he thought about our little town Dawson Creek he said he loves the small towns and great venues.
"The fans are so much more appreciative."
The band furthest northern performance has been in Fort Mac Alberta.
Originally from Califonia, Shaddox says northern Canada country side is absolutely beautiful.
On the topic of Johnny Cash Shaddix says their uniform on stage has always been dressed all black.
"That’s because of Johnny Cash - man in black.”
In addition to Cash other bands Shaddix mentioned he takes inspiration from are; Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Bring Me The Horizon, Snapcase, Prodigy, and the Wu-Tang Clan.
Currently Shaddix favorite song to perform is Elevate.
“Just because of the hype and energy of it.”
The band is touring with album How Do You Trust, which is their 10th album release. Songs are written by Shaddix and band members. The video for the song Come Around was recorded with mega fan -Mark- where the band centers the entire video around the story of Mark as their number one fan spanning over many years; and recognizing him for it.
When asked how Mark was selected Shaddix said theynoticed him in the crowds always in front row.
"He brough so much energy it was infectious, I feed off that.”
The name Papa Roach originates from Shaddix’s own great grandfather who’s last name was Roach and the family called him papa Roach.
"The name just stuck and it's a great tribute to my great grandfather.”
A personal message Shaddix has for the youth musicians of Dawson Creek is; keep going, keep it rocking.
"Find people to play in front of, get bigger crowds, create and play as much as possible and continue to sharpen your craft even when times are tough.”
Shaddix looks forward to the Mile Zero gig and the miles between now and then.
Travel safe dudes.
