Captain Marvel: a taster before the endgame

I think of this movie like the first Captain America. An origin story that is the spine of the next decade to come.

Carol Danvers/Vers/Captain Marvel is the central line to origins with Yon-Rogg and Fury (scene chewers Jude Law and Sam Jackson respectively).

Brie Larson plays the lead underrated - I don't mind it and like to think like fellow blond Thor, the character will loosen up after playing with others.

Here the stakes are never raised, but it is a solo origin story with little to do other than set up some post- Infinity war plot points. To that end, the film does feel like a bit of an afterthought. However in the pantheon of Marvel it is in fine company.

After crash landing, Danvers is discovered by the Kree – an alien species. The film picks up in the mid 90s and the music and many jokes follow suit. Kevin Smith gets a shout out in the only way it should have happened, while the de-ageing work on Jackson is peerless.

The problem with the film is much that they have with Superman. You have an all powerful superhero. Where do you go in terms of conflict?
