Anonymous affiliate claims to take down city of Dawson Creek website

Twitter user takes "revenge" for killing of James McIntyre

A self-described member of the hacker group Anonymous claims to have temporarily crashed the city of Dawson Creek website in retaliation for the police killing of James McIntyre last month.

A Twitter user named tsargirl told Alaska Highway News Tuesday afternoon that as a "friend of James" she had disrupted to take "revenge" for his death.

Dawson Creek Chief Administrative Officer Jim Chute confirmed the website was down, saying the city received a report of the trouble around 1:20 p.m.

"Our contractor that maintains our website is investigating, trying to find the cause," he said. "We saw some Twitter feeds and stuff, but we don't know. The contractor is working with our IT folks."

Whether the cyber attack was a sophisticated one remains to be seen.

Tsargirl would not provide her name when asked, but said she was close with Twitter user jaymack9, who on July 16 posted about disrupting an open house on the Site C dam. The user has not been active since. Tsargirl said she and jaymack9 were close, and that he eventually told her his name was James McIntyre. Officials have not said whether the account belonged to McIntyre.

The user said she wants officials to reveal the name of the officers or officers who shot McIntyre outside a Dawson Creek restaurant on July 16.

The website was loading sporadically as of 2 p.m.
